The mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi joined as another representatives of local authorities in Italy, who appeal to the government to adopt regulations limiting the phenomenon of the so -called excessive tourism. “You can't wait any longer,” he said.

Manfredi, who is also the president of the Association of Italian communes, said that the fight against excessive tourism should be started, “before the situation became irreversible.”
During the UNESCO conference on cultural goods organized in Naples, the mayor quoted on Thursday by the Italian media said: “We asked the government to adopt a law that will allow the phenomenon to regulate and combine what is a free business initiative with territory protection and its values and everyday life.”
As the head of the Association of Municipalities, Manfredi noted that both large historical cities and smaller towns struggle with difficulties due to the mass influx of tourists.
There is also Naples among them – he noted. He emphasized that many more tourists are coming to the capital of the region now than before Pandemia and ever before.
The Italian Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, present at the conference, assured that when it comes to excessive tourism, “the government already uses various tools” and monitors the situation.
Venice and Florence introduced different steps in response to what is happening for many months of the year. The actions were announced by the authorities of the island of Capri and towns in the land of Cinque Terre in Liguria.
