US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that new Sino-American commercial discussions will take place in London on Monday in an “agreement” between the two giants in a customs dispute, AFP reports.
The White House leader stated on the SA Social Truth network that the secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, the Secretary of Trade, Howard Lutnick, and the American trade representative, Jamieson Greer, will be part of the US delegation. “This meeting should go very well,” he added.
The US president said the telephone discussion held on Thursday with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping had the subject of trade and ended 'in a very good way', agreeing the continuation of negotiations between their countries to resolve divergences related to customs duties, which disturbed the world economy, notes Reuters and AFP.
Xi Jinping discussed on the phone with Donald Trump, at the “request” of the US President, says Beijing. The first discussion between the two after the wars of the tariffs
According to AFP, the conversation took place in a context of powerful commercial and diplomatic tensions between the two super-powerful ones, who accuse each other of endangering the commercial armistice negotiated in Geneva.
President Trump, under which the US made a determined protectionist turn, caused a new tension moment with China, accusing Beijing of not respecting the terms of the commercial armistice negotiated by the two parties on May 12.
The US and China had reached an agreement to temporarily suspend the climbing that brought the customs tariffs to American products to 125%, and those applied to Chinese products to 145%.
After two days of negotiations, they had accepted to temporarily reduce the tariffs to 30%, respectively 10%, committing to continue the discussions for a commercial agreement.
