Over a thousand people gathered on Thursday in Zărnești, as in a real popular holiday, to mark the opening of a new hiking route on the famous Via Transilvanica, called “Terra Borza”. The organizers were surprised by the large number of participants, initially waiting for only a few dozen hiking.
The new route measures almost 180 kilometers and starts from the village of Viscri, famous for the Saxon heritage and connections with King Charles III. The route crosses 13 picturesque localities, including descend, Șona, Șinca and Bran, and reveals an authentic rural landscape, with large meadows, shady forests, isolated sheep and old churches, notes ProTV.
The enthusiasm of the participants was obvious throughout the hiking. Under the scorching sun, the column was moving to Bran, accompanied by laughter, good cheer and a holiday atmosphere.
“I look up and see a lot of people, it's great.”
“We also have a Camino, such as Spain, and other countries.”
“Everyone is relaxed, blessed, children do not say” I can no longer “, but become friends”,
These are some of the impressions of hiking lovers.
The path is marked with carved stone terminals, each being unique, made by Romanian artists. Dana Rogoz, an ambassador of the project, stressed that these terminals create a real outdoor museum.
“The terminals themselves have a story, that is, you find them from kilometer to kilometer and each terminal is unique, it was carved, designed by an artist. It is like a kind of outdoor museum“She said.

The route is accessible not only to hikers, but also cyclists. And for those who seek urban comfort, there is the possibility of accommodation in Zărnești, Râșnov or Brașov, where receptionists say that the number of tourists has increased visibly in the last days, both from Romania and abroad.
“There are a lot of customers currently staying with us, and from outside but also from the country, thanks to this event”, Said Cristina Gârbacea, from a local pension.
Via Transilvanica has already been noticed by international tourist publications, and the Tășuleasa Social Association, the initiator of the project, dreams of a national extension of the route in the coming years, as explained by its founder, Alin Ușeriu.
“Our 20 -year -old long -term strategy is to go to Wallachia, Dobrogea, and in Moldova and Maramureș, this ambassador of Romania must represent as many regions in Romania”, He said, who added that Via Transilvanica can bring up to 300,000 tourists annually.
