The day before, referring to the budget deficit, President Nicușor Dan had said that “for years we have paid an average pizza and eat a big pizza.”

The employers in the Horeca industry were warned on a press conference on Thursday that it is necessary to maintain the 9% reduced VAT rate for restaurants and related services, in the context of the scenarios taken to stabilize the budget deficit.

With the microphones mounted in Pescăruș from Bucharest, in Herastrau Park, they referred to the comparison made by the President of Romania. To exemplify the fact that Romania consumes more than it produces, Nicușor Dan had said on a press conference on Wednesday, that “for years we pay an average pizza and eat a big pizza. Someone must be paid by someone.”

The shareholders in the hospitality industry have pointed out that, if it makes the calculations bad, the state will wake up at the table not with a media pizza, as it controls through the sketched measures, but with a small pizza.

“The state forces the tourist to choose un -unnatural tourism”

Patrons in hotels, restaurants and public food have shown that the budget crisis is real and that no one is in a situation to say that he asks from the state without offering.

But, for example, the operators in the hotel sector said that, although it has lower revenues than they should, the state is self -sabotaging.

They drew attention to unfair competition in the accommodation market, caused by the differences in fiscalization between hotels and rental apartments (Booking, Airbnb).

“Any other increase in the VAT area applied only for hotels will make it absolutely easy to choose for a tourist to choose a hotel that fiscalizes and pays all these taxes, additional will be the percentage we are on a VAT increase, versus an accommodation at the apartment that will probably not have these taxes,” said Simona Constantinescu, CEO of Ana Hotel. (Fihr), quoted by StartupCafe.

“Basically, the state forces the tourist to choose unnatural tourism. If he does not have a balancing of this competition and taxes, it is obvious that the tourist will choose the smaller price variant, without necessarily interested it,” added Simona Constantinescu.

The little pizza comes

For his part, Daniel Mischie said that “the most common idea we hear is a unique VAT, a unique VAT rate at 19%, a share that would apply to the tourism industry, respectively the hospitality sector. That would mean a tragedy for a large part of the operators the light would be extinguished and especially the tax evasion would grow.”

Mischie is the CEO of the Citygrill Restaurants Group and a member of the Board of Directors of the Employers of Hotels and Restaurants in Romania (Hora).

He responded to the reference with Pizza, made by President Nicușor Dan.

“If we ate the big pizza and ordered the average pizza, our recommendation is not to make the same mistake, to order an average pizza with a big pizza, because what is proposed today will bring a small pizza to the table,” said Daniel Mischie.

Daniel Mischie insisted on the idea that the measures to increase the taxes can, in the absence of a well -articulated state and process, lead not to the growth, but to the decrease of the receipts, at least in Horeca, where the money can start to circulate in black.
