Earning in foreign currencies other than euros will soon have to forget about the mortgage at Polish banks. In a few days, the granting of currency loans will stop one of two current lenders in this field.

“On June 9, we will temporarily suspend the granting of housing loans for individual clients indexed to the EUR, NOK, nok, sect. We will inform you about any changes in a timely manner. Of course, in no way, this limits the availability of loans in PLN, which constitute the main and dominant part of our portfolio” – informs Bank Pekao SA in the commentary sent to Bankier.pl.
Let us remind you that, according to the Act on mortgage, such a loan can only be granted in a currency in which the consumer obtains most of his income. This means that people working, e.g. abroad, have a limited field of maneuver. They must (if they do not want to reach for tricks) incur a currency or indexed currency obligation.
Potential borrowers who earn in several currencies should also take into account the fact that the Recommendation S of Financial Supervision forces banks to “weigh” income. “In the case of retail (or households) customers, obtaining income in several currencies, For the purposes of creditworthiness calculation, the bank should set up a depreciation by 50% of other currencies than the currency in which the borrower (or household) gets the highest income, “says the recommendation of the applicable banks.
The choice of banks proposing such products on the Polish market is more than modest. After the decision of Bank Pekao, the only institution that has a mortgage in euro in the standard offer remains Alior Bank.
