In the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the remains of the ancient Bison were found. This was reported by the press service of the Tungusky Reserve.

The employee found two major fragment of the spine on May 29 on The sandy bank of the Hushma River. The bones looked more than those that could belong moose or wild northern deer.

Their origin was able to be determined by Andrei Shpansky, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Head of the Department of Paleontology and Historical Geology of TSU. It turned out that fragments are cervical vertebrae (approximately 4 and 5 vertebrae) Ancient steppe bison (Bison Priscus).

Ancient bison died out in Siberia about 12 thousand years ago due to climate change. The dimensions of one individual were up to 3 meters in length, up to 2 meters in height, weight – more than tons.

Global warming led to the fact that forest massifs appeared at the bison habitat, and animals were adapted to another stern – grassy plants, taiga (boreal) shrubs, dwarf trees.

People did not affect their extinction – the density of settlement in Siberia was extremely low.
