President Nicușor Dan made press statements on Saturday in Băcel in Covasna county, one of the areas affected by floods, and said that “we must act systematically to solve the systematic problems in Romania”.

Asked by a reporter from Realitatea Plus why he came “so late” in a place where people “wait for six days here”, considering that in Covasna county they voted for “over 80% of people”, the head of state replied: “There are more duties for this position and it is an emergency, to solve the problem,”

“The conclusions are that we had a large amount of water, except that we are in a place where this thing happens frequently and where the Romanian state has to act for a permanent measure (…).

He explained that “systematic” must be acted “systematically” to remedy “systematic” problems.

“We need to act systematically to solve the systematic problems in Romania. Systematically it means that there are areas that have a risk of floods, for which we have to do some draft projects and we have to step and do them in a number of years,” said President Nicușor Dan.

Also on Saturday, Nicușor Dan was also in Praid, another area affected by floods. According to the president, in three to four months, it will be possible to know, following a study, if the Praid saline can be saved entirely or only partially.

Hundreds of locals gathered in front of the saline, hoping they could talk to Nicușor Dan and receive solutions, because, with the closing of the saline, many of them remain without the sources of income.

The President of Romania said that Salina knew since 2007 about potential issues and that the authorities to assume, and the Prime Minister's control body to establish the culprits.

He also mentioned that the employees of the mine, but also the locals living from tourism or trade will receive different sets of compensation.
