Donald Trump will maintain a 75 -year -old traditionaccording to which NATO is headed by an American general. The president has already informed about this privately the head of alliance Marek Rutte.
In March, the media reported that Trump's administration was considering the US withdrawal from traditional command of NATO forces in Europe (the Supreme Command of allied forces in Europe – Saceur), which was to be dictated by the desire to reduce the costs of the Pentagon.
US plans for Europe
As Reuters comments, Trump's decision should calm the European US allies, at least for now, but the interlocutors of the Agency warn that the administrative plans for the concentration of the United States defense policy in Asia have not been abandoned. In addition Washington is still considering reducing the American contingent in Europe.
