On Friday visiting Kiev, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan came with the proposal for the Triateral Zelenski, Putin and Trump to be hosted by Turkey, according to AFP, quoted by Agerpres.
“We honestly believe that it is possible to crown the first and second round from Istanbul through a meeting between Trump, Putin and Zelenski, under the aegis of Erdogan,” Fidan said in a common press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sibiga.
The head of Turkish diplomacy continued: “We can either close our eyes on the continuation of this war, or reach a sustainable peace until the end of the year.”
He also said that “expectations in terms of fire and peace have increased”, but that progress can take place “as long as we stay at the negotiation table”.
Also, the Turkish minister said that Moscow, like Kiev, “wants a cessation of fire”, although the Russian side has so far criticized this idea.
This week President Zelenski asked a three -in -three summit with Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The Ukrainian leader said he was “prepared” for a meeting with them and asked Washington to impose on Moscow a pack of hard sanctions to hit the bank and energy sector.
On Friday, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, quoted by the State Agency Tass, said that the direct participation of Vladimir Putin in negotiations on the conclusion of the Ukraine war, along with Volodimir Zelenski and Donald Trump, will take place only after the current discussions between the Russian delegation and the Ukrainian delegation.
US President Donald Trump wants an unconditional armistice, which Kiev supports. But Russia, who invaded the neighboring country in February 2022, previously refused this possibility.
