Each of the three municipalities will transfer 100,000 PLN for the implementation of the undertaking called “Local government water route, pedestrian and bicycle ferry crossing on the Szczecin Lagoon”. The initiative, reported by local government officials from the Police poviat, has not only tourist, but also practical – it will connect existing bicycle routes with water routes, which will shorten the time needed to encircle the Szczecin Lagoon.
– The path around the lagoon is a route for two days, until one water tram is enough – explained the Police staroste Shivan Fate. He added that in June a contract with the shipowner – SECCO Janusz Just – which will be responsible for the connection, provided that the documentation was completed until June 4 will be signed.
The tram is to run on the Szczecin – Nowe Warpno – Świnoujście route and back, as well as between Nowy Warpn and Świnoujście. The unit will hold 200 passengers and 50 bikes.
– On the Polish side, the Szczecin Lagoon has no tourist fleet. We are changing it now – said the mayor of Nowy Warpna Jarosław Burba. – For us it is not only an attraction, but also a impulse of development. There will be no industry with us, but there may be tourists and investors – he added.
How much do you have to spend?
The project involves pilot launch of the connection in the summer season of 2025. Ticket prices will be varied: a cruise from Szczecin to Nowy Warpna (about 2 hours) will cost PLN 50 (reduced PLN 40), and for a family 2+2 – 145 PLN. We will pay for a return trip, respectively: PLN 70 (normal), PLN 60 (reduced) and PLN 210 (family). A longer cruise in Szczecin – Świnoujście (approx. 3.5 hours) will cost PLN 70 (60 PLN reduced).
In the PRL there was already a water connection between Szczecin and Świnoujście – since the 1960s. Fast hydrofoles ran there, which were withdrawn over time due to a lack of profitability. In the following decades, attempts were made to restore them, including in 2007 and 2018, but without a lasting effect. Now the initiative of the Police poviat has a chance to restore this connection in a new form.
