The new Hobanat (anchored) bridge in Satu Mare will be open to road traffic starting on Friday, May 30, on the occasion of the Municipality Days, after four years of works.

At the end of April, the bridge passed the resistance tests, essential for its use.

The checks took place in two stages: the first was the static test, in which 16 high tonnage trucks, loaded at maximum capacity, were strategically positioned on the bridge, while a team equipped with sensors and high precision GPS stations monitored the structure reaction.

The dynamic attempt followed, in which the same trucks circulated up to 80 km/h over the bridge and over artificial bumps, simulating real traffic conditions.

Transylvania Bridge – Erdély Híd

Recently, the bridge received the official name “Transilvania Bridge – Erdély Híd”, a choice that, according to Mayor Gabor Kereskényi, aims to strengthen the local identity and reflect the historical and multicultural heritage of the municipality.

“The choice of this name strengthens the position of Satu Mare municipality as a city with European openness, respecting the linguistic diversity and the traditions of the area. An emblematic name can contribute to increasing the visibility of the city and attracting tourists interested in the culture and history of Transylvania.”the mayor informed.

According to local authorities, the new bridge is the largest infrastructure project carried out in the municipality in the last three decades. The investment amounts to 200 million lei and was financed by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration. The new bridge over Someș has a main opening of 195 meters, a total length of 395 meters, a width of 25 meters and a height of 73 meters.

The structure is supported by two pillars, through 56 special steel hobans, arranged symmetrically in the semi -chair system. The Hobanat ensemble has a weight of 216 tons, and the cables can support a total load of 12,000 tons.

The road bridge has four lanes (two on each direction), two sidewalks provided with a pedestrian parapet and a bicycle track. For pedestrian access on the dams, four stairs were built (two on each side), and for the safety of the traffic were mounted metal parapets on ramps, viaducts, stairs and on the bridge itself. Transylvania – Erdély Híd bridge is located on Ştrandului street and is the third bridge over Someș built in Satu Mare.
