In a small amount, ants benefit on your site, but when the number of their population grows, the benefits from them are rapidly turning into harm. Experienced gardeners know that attempts to completely get rid of these insects are doomed to failure. However, reduce their number is a very real task.
More harm than benefits
Dead shoots, dried bushes and rapidly spreading aphids throughout the site. Familiar? Then you have problems with ants. These small insects are actively loosening the ground, destroy the roots of plants and dilute the aphids that feed on the juices of young seedlings. Its appearance weakens even long -planted plants. Because of this, their yield falls. Some of them may get sick at all.
Methods of struggle:
- Chemicals – any specialized drug is suitable. They are in the form of liquid sprays, which must be diluted with water, as well as in the form of granules or gel. They will already need to be placed next to the anthill and the poison itself will do its job.
- Mustard – a simple folk remedy for ants does not lose its relevance among avid summer residents. This method does not solve the problem dramatically, but will scare away arthropod pests. It is enough to scatter mustard powder in places where ant paths are visible.
- Boric acid is an effective method that can immediately destroy a whole colony of ants. To do this, mix 10 g of acid with sugar or jam. Only two tablespoons will be enough. Lay the resulting mixture in small containers and place it next to the habitat of insects.
Typically, ants prefer to settle in secluded places on the site or in a greenhouse. In the warm season, they can build their anthill on one of the beds.
