MedLife continues the series of cultural events meant to change how Romanians look at medical units, through an exclusive exhibition dedicated to the connection between spirituality and medicine

MedLife, the largest network of private medical services in Romania, continues the steps to contribute to the transformation of the hospital into a living space of the community. Thus, it launches a new exhibition from the series of cultural events “Culture and Medicine: an alchemy of good”, entitled “About spirituality and medicine”.

Initiated by MedLife, the project “Culture and medicine: an alchemy of the good” aims to bring back to the public attention the role of hospitals as meeting spaces between science, medicine and spirit, between reason and sensitivity, between the medical act and the meaning of meaning. This new episode takes place inside MedLife Medical Park and opens a theme often overlooked in modern medicine: the deep connection between spirituality and the patient's health.

From trust and hope, to the ability to cope with suffering, pain or uncertainty, spiritual dimension plays an essential role in the healing process. Numerous studies and clinical experiences show that patients who benefit from spiritual support-either by faith, or by the meaning they build in the face of a suffering-develops greater resilience, acceptance and motivation during the medical course. This is why MedLife brings to the fore the idea that hospitals should not only remain spaces for technical intervention, but can also become places of interior finding, emotional reinforcement and reconnection with self. Such a humanistic and integrative approach not only supports healing, but contributes to rendering the dignity and inner balance of each patient.

The event includes an old book exhibition, which brings to light the contribution of faith to the development of the Romanian language and to the outline of cultural identity. The public will be able to discover volumes with profound spiritual and linguistic value, such as the Bible from Bălgrad, the boiler of Varlaam, the Bucharest Bible, the Romanian Gospel from Snagov, the Gospel of Constantin Brâncoveanu, the Blaj Bible, the Buzau, the Bible of Șaguna, the New Testament from Piatra Neamț

The idea of these series of events started from the needs of doctors, but also of patients – people who, daily, are facing huge challenges, either in the operating room or in the fight with the disease. Today's medicine means top technology, surgical robots and extremely complex interventions. But even in this universe of performance, we need landmarks to anchor us. Culture, spirituality, emotion-all this helps doctors retain their balance, and patients find their hope. There are things that keep us connected to humanity ”, said Mihai MarcuPresident and CEO MedLife Group.

The exhibition “About spirituality and medicine” took place on May 28 and was preceded by a public debate structured in two thematic panels, moderated by journalist Cătălin Ștefănescu.

The two dialogue sessions have addressed essential topics for understanding the role that spirituality can play in medical practice and in the patient's well -being, as well as the deep influence of religious writings on the Romanian language and national cultural identity.

In the discussions intervened Prof. Dr. Călin Cotoi,- Professor of Sociology, University of Bucharest, Prof. Octavian Buda, Mihai Marcu – President & CEO MedLife Grup, Teodor Baconschi -Doctor in religious anthropology, Paris Iv-Sorbonne University and Radu Paraschivescu – writer. The conversations offered various and complementary perspectives, in a well-articulated and deep frame, which encouraged the authentic reflection and dialogue.

Between the two moments of dialogue, the public enjoyed a special artistic moment supported by the violinist Alexandru Tomescuwho interpreted, at the violin Stradivarius Elder-Voicu from 1702, Ciprian Porumbescu's ballad – a symbolic recital about balance, sensitivity and harmony. The emotion of the song, braided with the power of a historical instrument, has added an extra depth and light to the event, emphasizing the idea that art, culture and spirituality can support healing in unexpected ways.

Pain was the first engine of medical knowledge. Since ancient times, people have tried to understand suffering and find a sense. In ancient Egypt and Greece, medicine has developed in a space where science and spirituality coexist, and healing meant not only the treatment of the body, but also of the soul. The transmission of these experiences from generation to generation has created a true knowledge heritage, which is the basis of modern medicine“He added Prof. Dr. Călin Cotoi.

The series of events “culture and medicine: an alchemy of the good” will continue in the following months, in the MedLife hospitals in Bucharest and in the country, bringing to the public the topics that explore the depth of the relationship between medicine and the fundamental values of humanity.

The exhibition “About spirituality and medicine” It remains open to the public for several months and will be followed by new editions, held both in Bucharest and in other cities in the country, as part of the MedLife commitment to transform the medical space into a place of dialogue, reflection and reconnection.
