According to VTB, debit cards remain the main way of non -cash payment among Russians. Alternative payment instruments occupy a lower share in the total volume of transactions, but at the same time they grow both in terms of the number of operations and in the sum of expenses. The Russians continue to choose cards for payment due to their versatility, reliability and bonuses in the loyalty program.

Payments with debit and credit cards are leading among all payment methods. In the first quarter of 2025, VTB customers made purchases worth more than 1 trillion rubles using debit cards. This is almost 60 % more compared to the same period last year. The number of transactions also increased half and reached 1.2 billion. VTB analysts predict the further growth of expenses on debit cards. It is expected that according to the results of the fourth quarter, the amount will increase by 36 %.

The use of credit cards also showed significant growth: in the first quarter of 2025, customers spent more than 138 billion rubles, which is 20 % higher than the same period last year. The number of transactions reached 100 million, increasing by almost a quarter compared to last year. According to bank forecasts, by the end of 2025, the share of payment with debit cards will increase by 1.5 %, and the share of credit cards will be reduced by the same 1.5 %.

In the first quarter, VTB customers made 90 million payments using payment stickers, spending more than 65 billion rubles. Compared to last year, the number of transactions has grown by almost six times.

The bank service of the bank is a relatively “young” method of payment, which became available to bank customers in December last year. Despite their novelty, for the first quarter of 2025, customers with its help made more than 40 million transactions and spent over 30 billion rubles on purchases. Bank analysts note that users on average make 15 % more payments monthly than customers who have not connected the service.

The share of digital cards does not change and remains at the level of 2.1 % of the total transaction turnover. For the first quarter, customers made more than 21 million payments using such cards for a total of over 25 billion rubles. Moreover, compared with last year, the amount and amount of expenses increased by 54 %.

When the charge on the phone or the Internet disappeared, and you need to pay for the purchase instantly, it is the plastic card that becomes a Joker.
