Video Călin Georgescu announces that he withdraws from the political life: “I choose to be, from now on, a passive observer of public and social life”

Calin Georgescu declared, on Monday night, in a video message on Facebook, that he focuses “all his attention and energy on his family”, which he says “needs peace and especially health after this intense and tumultuous period.”

The former presidential candidate said that “the world is tired of conflicts, wars, chaos, haste, violence and excess of politics.”

“In Romania, the exaggerated political struggle has led to the deprofessionalization. When the attention of the people, stimulated and speculated by the media, is focused on the political struggle, of course, irrelevant for the well -being of the society, it means that the people of the professions are essential for the functioning of the country, the entrepreneurs, the craftsmen, the craftsmen, the peasants, the teachers, the teachers, Professionalism develops a country, while excessive policy weakens, ”said Călin Georgescu.

“I choose to keep a neutral and equidistant position, without political membership”

Calin Georgescu will be heard on Tuesday by prosecutors

The former presidential candidate was called on Tuesday at the General Prosecutor's Office, to be heard by prosecutors after reproducing a quote from the former legionary leader Zelea Codreanu, judicial sources said. Georgescu is criminally investigated, under judicial control, for six crimes, and officials in the General Prosecutor's Office confirmed, last week, that it is analyzed if the criminal prosecution is required.

He is accused of setting up a plan to destabilize Romania with the help of mercenaries led by Horațiu Potra, after the Constitutional Court's decision to cancel the presidential elections of 2024.

The offenses for which Calin Georgescu is being prosecuted:

• Instigation to actions against constitutional order, in tempted form
• Communication of fake information
• false in statements in continuous form
• The initiation or establishment of an organization of a fascist, racist or xenophobic character, adherence or support, in any form, of such a group
• The promotion, in the public, of the cult of persons guilty of committing genocide offenses against humanity and war crimes, as well as the act of promoting, in public, ideas, fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic doctrines.
• the initiation or establishment of an anti -Semitic organization, the accession or support, in any form, of such an organization.

In March, the Constitutional Court established that Georgescu cannot run for the presidential elections in May.
