Poland will receive EU support for the repair of damages after the September floods

The European Commission proposed that it would transfer Poland 76 million euros for reconstruction after floods, with which the western part of the country struggled in September as a result of the passage of Hurricane Boris. Poland is the largest beneficiary of the package addressed to six countries.


Apart from the Polish beneficiaries of the package, Austria (EUR 42.8 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 114 million), Slovakia (EUR 2.1 million), Bosnia and Herzegovina (45.7 million euros) and Moldova (195.2 thousand euros) are Austria (42.8 million euros).
The funds come from the EU solidarity fund, which is to help member states and candidates in the reconstruction of infrastructure and the protection of the population after natural disasters, health crises or human disasters.
The proposal requires approval by the European Parliament and member states. Then the EC will pay help to the countries in one tranche.
Between 12 and 16 September 2024, Central Europe got stuck than, which led to a very extensive flood, compared to the Millennium of 1997. Thousands of people had to evacuate their homes, many buildings collapsed and urban infrastructure was damaged.
In Poland, the areas of the Lower Silesian, Opole, Silesian and Lubuskie provinces were most affected.
As a result of the flood, 26 people were killed, including 9 in Poland.
