Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa estimates that in the first quarter she had a loss of EBITDA (operational result increased by cushioning) in the amount of PLN 1.227 billion, and the net loss of PLN 1.363 billion – the company said on Tuesday morning. According to estimates, sales revenues amounted to PLN 2.438 billion.
For comparison, a year ago, after the first quarter, the net loss was only PLN 11 million, and at the EBITDA level the group had PLN 532 million in profit. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the company recorded PLN 918 million net loss with a negative EBITDA result of PLN 696 million. Throughout 2024, the EBITDA loss reached PLN 6.5 billion, and net PLN 7.2 billion. Revenues in the first three months of 2025 fell to PLN 2.44 billion from PLN 3.41 billion a year ago and PLN 2.46 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024.
“A significant impact on the financial result was the capture of an updating value of fixed assets in the coal segment in a total amount of PLN 648 million, related to events occurred in the Knurów-Szczygłowice mine, Ruch Szczygłowice”-wrote in a message.
As stated, in the first quarter of 2025, total coal production was 2.86 million tons, coal production of 2.32 million tons, coal production for energy purposes 0.54 million tons, and the total coke production amounted to 0.70 million tons.

The company also stated that the implementation of a number of initiatives aimed at improving the use of wall complexes and the increase in the volume of coal coal mining.
She reported that the most advanced work was covered by the “Effective Mine” stream, under which a pilot of a program was launched to increase mining. It was implemented on five selected walls – in Pniówek and Budryk mines, as well as Knurów, Borynia and Zofiówka movements. In addition to previously developed technical solutions, they used, among others A modified motivational system for wall brigades.
“The effects were very promising – in April mining on the walls covered by the pilot program amounted to 325,000 tons of net coal, which means an increase of 17 % compared to the planned level of 278 thousand tons” – wrote in a message.

In the case of investments, more than PLN 1.2 billion of savings has already been achieved and work is currently underway to optimize expenditure on reinforcement, movement excavations and optimization of other investment expenses.
