The interim president of the USR, Dominic Fritz, told Digi 24 on Tuesday that the party will have a candidate for the City Hall and that he “will have to be validated and elected by all USR members in Bucharest”.

Asked if he knows who the USR candidate will be in the Capital Electoral race, Dominic Fritz replied: I do not know who he is, because he will have to be validated and chosen by all USR members in Bucharest and this is a process that we take seriously, but it is not a secret that we have several very qualified candidates. One of them is Cătălin Drulă ”.

He said that “there will be internal elections” even in the event that only Cătălin Drulă wants to run.

“Even if there is only one candidate, it must be validated by the members,” said Dominic Fritz, the interim president of the USR and the mayor of Timisoara.

The name of Cătălin Drulă had also been carried by Clotilde Armand, the former mayor of Sector 1.

“I think USR must have a candidate for the Capital City Hall and my opinion is: Cătălin Drulă is the best option for Bucharest,” wrote Clotilde Armand, on May 19, on Facebook.

Nicușor Dan resigned from the position of general mayor on May 23, due to the fact that he won the presidential elections on May 18, and earlier this week was invested as President of Romania. Until the organization of the local election, the interim at the Bucharest City Hall is provided by the liberal Stelian Bujduveanu.
