The capricious weather continues to take over Romania, with temperatures lower by 5 to 10 degrees than the normal values for this period. Meteorologists announce that rains and cold will persist throughout the week in almost all regions of the country.

In the last days, the amounts of precipitation have reached, in certain areas, up to 80 liters per square meter. According to the specialists, the situation is caused by the fact that Western Europe had a long -term very high temperatures, which favored the maintenance of the cold air mass and loaded in the geographical area of Romania.

Orange code for rains and flood risk

The National Meteorological Administration maintains the orange code of heavy rains until Tuesday morning, for the east of the country. The targeted areas include most of Muntenia and the center and southern Moldova, where consistent rains are expected that can lead to dangerous increases in the flows of some rivers.

Florinela Georgescu, forecast director at ANM, told Digi24 that rains will continue in all regions of the country throughout the week. Although a slight improvement is expected in the south and south-east of the country from Tuesday, the risk of floods remains increased due to high water accumulations and slopes.

Hydrologists also warn that important leaks are expected on slopes, torrents and streams, as well as fast floods on small rivers, with possible local floods until Tuesday night. The river basins of the rivers Olt, Călmățui, Vedea, Argeș, Ialomița, Siret, Prut, but also the rivers in Dobrogea will be affected. In these areas, accumulations of 50-70 l/sqm are estimated, and locally even 80 l/sqm.

“The a little better news is that in the south, south-east, Muntenia South Moldova will have less important amounts of water than today. The hydrological warnings remain in force, because these constant and quantitative rains remain a danger of flooding the large hydrographic basins in the east of the country. The precipitations of May 22, cumulated and with the rainfall of the last two days, so that there are areas in the south of the country, in the center of Moldova and in the north of Muntenia where 80-90 l/sqm have been accumulated in these last five-six days and will continue to accumulate water after the expected rains ”,, said director Florinela Georgescu.

The weather in the capital

Nor does Bucharest escape the dreadful weather. Monday and Monday night on Tuesday will continue to rain, and thick clouds keep temperatures at a low level. The maximums will not exceed 17-19 degrees Celsius, while the rest of the country will be between 14 and 22 degrees.
