Over 40,000 cases of domestic violence were reported, at national level, between January-April 2025, the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) show. The official centralized data at the police level shows that thousands of aggressors were placed under the prohibition to approach their victims, but also that thousands of victims of family violence have refused that their aggressors should be mounted so-called electronic bracelets announcing the police in case of approaching them, informs News.ro.
Statistical data made public on Sunday by IGPR shows that in the first four months of this year the police intervened at 40,030 cases of domestic violence, of which 19,984 in the urban area and 20,046 in the rural area. During the same period, the police issued 3,788 provisional protection orders, 1,464 of them being transformed into longer protection orders by the courts.
“At the national level, in the first 4 months of 2025, the number of criminal facts registered in the field of domestic violence decreased by 16% compared to the first 4 months of 2024, from 18,410 to 15,457 facts. There were decreases, compared to the similar period of 2024, for hitting or other violence (from 10,979 to 8.75), to 8.75) 2.353 to 1,840 facts) and non -observance of the provisional protection orders (from 240 to 211 facts).
During the same period, the courts issued 4,160 protection orders, 1,464 being from provisional protection orders.
There were few cases in which the aggressors on whose behalf were issued prohibitions to approach their victims violated their obligations. The official data regarding the non -observance of the protection order shows that 1,690 offenses were notified between January and April 2025.
“In the first 4 months of 2025, at national level, in 726 situations, the measure of obliging the aggressor to wear an electronic supervisory device was implemented,” the police report.
The statistics indicate that the number of victims who have refused to install so-called electronic bracelets is almost four times higher than those who have agreed with this protection measure which stipulates that the police are alerted in real time if the aggressor is approaching his victim.
Official data show that in 2,632 situations, the victims refused the aggressor's obligation to permanently carry an electronic supervisory device.
