“There is no guarantee that the Ukrainian army will not return against us,” says Viktor Orban

Families in Hungary are threatened by the danger of being destroyed by the plans of Brussels against Russia, Hungarian Viktor Orban said, according to Hirado.hu. “We must necessarily prevent this Ukrainian effort,” he said.
Viktor Orbán gave a Kossuth radio interview last day in Budapest, Rador Radio Romania cites. At the beginning of the interview, the host of the show first asked in Orbán about writing the past days about the expansion of the Ukrainian threat, while mentioning that Brussels wants to limit Hungary's access and Russian energy.
When asking if it is rather to help Kiev or to give a lesson to Budapest and Bratislave, Orbán said that, in his opinion, it could be a third thing. Normally – he explained – a prime minister is making efforts to make the energy as cheap, but this can not be seen now in most European countries.
“The others support only measures” that increase the price of energy. “I make efforts to increase the energy,” the Hungarian prime minister said, adding that he believes that they will rather cause damage to the Russians through their energy price policy, and this is more important than to help families from their own companies. And Hungarian families are threatened by the danger of being destroyed by the Plan of Brussels against Russia, he says.
Viktor Orbán also referred to the fact that if there had been no South Stream pipeline system-through which Russian energy imports continue to reach Hungary-Hungary would have problems after the Ukrainian transit was stopped at the beginning of 2025. And if Brussels would completely prohibit Russian energy, Billions of extra forints each year for energy purchased from other sources.
“If the Ukrainians were able to implement their plan, […] Then the electricity invoice of all would double, and the heating invoice would be four times higher. […] This is the consequence of the Ukrainian request, this is what the Ukrainians want and that is why we have to defend ourselves, “said the Hungarian Prime Minister, who added:” In this case, the reduction of the general expenses would not be possible. “
“We must necessarily prevent this Ukrainian effort.”
The prime minister also spoke about the fact that the current situation justified the importance of the energy pipes that connect Hungary to the neighboring countries. He also mentioned that Slovakia would be in great danger now if this had not happened, because she managed to solve energy imports with the help of Hungary. Thanks to the Turks, South Stream is a reliable source of energy, and have recently managed to set their own energy reserves for Hungary in Azerbaijan, with the help of MOL, stressed Viktor Orbán, mentioning about the European ban on Russian gases: “We must necessarily prevent this Ukrainian effort.”
The Hungarian prime minister was also asked about recent information that 26 MEPs demanded the freezing of all EU funds for Hungary. Viktor Orbán has begun his answer by saying that the Ukrainian army, made up of one million people, should be supported by the European Union, even if “there is no guarantee that the Ukrainian army will always be friendly to us-this could be a risk of security in the future.”
“The other problem is belonging. It is related to this,” because it is easier to make such decisions “if Ukraine is in the EU, than if it is not,” said Viktor Orbán, who then referred to public consultation Voks 2025 (about the accession of Ukraine to the EU), which is still in progress, and mentioned that there is a debate on this theme.
“I encourage everyone to make their opinions heard about this important and large issue. Let's not let others decide over our head,” the prime minister said.
Spy accusations
“I have seen that there is an intense Ukrainian espionage activity in Hungary,” Viktor Orbán said about the case of espionage, referring to the fact that the espionage is still normal and common at a low level, and even our allies “puts their heads here sometimes”, and it is valid.
“But I noticed that the Ukrainian activity increased significantly in Hungary,” and there were operational actions, the Hungarian prime minister said, also saying that, in his opinion, the goal of Ukraine could be the influence of Hungarian public opinion in favor of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
In this regard, he stated: they expected the Ukrainians to launch a misinformation campaign, the secret services were prepared for it, but not for the fact that the Hungarian press and part of the opposition policy would take the part of the Ukrainians. At this point, Viktor Orbán also spoke about the fact that, in his opinion, the Tisza Party did not firmly deny that he would have established relations with Ukraine (here he referred to a video recording of Péter Magyar and Roland Ceber, accused of involvement in the case of espionage).
In the interview, the issue on the Law of Transparency was also addressed, of which Viktor Orbán said: “This is a gentle regulation, comparatively, for example, with a similar law in the United States.”
“I would have thought that there will be a consensus in this regard,” he said, referring to a possible national consensus that public personalities and organizations should not be allowed to accept money from abroad.
