On the occasion of this point, Sławomir Mentzen asked, and what about this euro, we will not introduce the euro? Trzaskowski replied that At the moment, the zloty guarantees us resistance to crises.
Mentzen noted, however, that currently Poland does not meet the conditions for adopting the euro. It is about the four most important criteria: they concern inflation, lack of excessive budget deficit, currency stability and long -term interest rates. Here, the key is a deficit that cannot be higher than three percent of GDP, public debt cannot exceed 60 percent of GDP. Meanwhile, Poland is currently covered by the excessive deficit procedure.
That is why Mentzen asked what would happen when Poland will begin to meet the criteria. – This topic is not on the agenda, nobody wants to introduce the euro. Nobody has such a plan at the moment. The answer is simple, today it does not pay off. Today, the euro allows us to be resistant to crises and that's it. The zloty is safer than the euro – emphasized Trzaskowski.
Mentzen pointed out a statement from October 2024, In which Trzaskowski said that if we want to be safe, one of the most important arguments is to accept the euro. Trzaskowski replied that today we are talking about allied guarantees, which are currently very strong. And he emphasized that at the moment there is no discussion about the introduction of the euro. – Our discussion is pointless in this sense that today nobody wants to introduce the euro – said Trzaskowski. And Mentzen expressed the hope that not tomorrow.
