Boris Pistorius presented the schedule of a new model of military service in Germany, which aim is, among others Increasing the size of the army. Initially, the program will consist of voluntary enlisting, but Pistorius warned that this may change.
– If the time comes when voluntary registration is not sufficient, then the decision on mandatory enlightening may be made. This is the road map – he said.
Chancellor's government Friedrich Merz is quickly working on a new bill on military service and hopes that he will come into force in January 2026, added Pistorius.
The debate on the restoration of the consumption suspended in 2011 in Germany intensified with the increase in fears about the readiness of national defense and the evolving threats of security in Europe, after Russia's full -ant invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Pistorius also said that the new model of military service would include activities aimed at involving more reservists to serve.
