The German Chancellor talked to XI Jinping. “Changes, unheard of for 100 years”

In response to this XI Jinping emphasized that the world “undergoes accelerated changes, unheard of for 100 years”, and the international situation is becoming more and more chaotic – writes AFP. Leaders agreed that they would maintain a direct dialogue and continue to exchange views to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Germany and China in the near future.
China remains the most important partner of Russia, which after the start of the war in Ukraine was in international isolation. Western countries still support Kiev financially and militarily, while Moscow focuses on deepening relations with Beijing.
The attempts made by Donald Trump aimed at the end of the war have not yet brought measurable results. After a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin, which took place on May 19, Trump conducted negotiations with European and Ukrainian leaders and – according to the Financial Times, citing his sources – he made them understand that the United States withdraw from diplomatic actions aimed at suspending weapons.
Agreement behind the horizon
According to The Wall Street Journal, the US president also said that in his opinion Putin does not intend to end the war because he thinks he was winning. At the same time, as the New York Times writes, Trump withdrew from earlier threats of introducing new sanctions against Russia.
In response to this, Vladimir Putin announced the decision to create the so -called buffer security zone along the Russian-Ukrainian border. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov called the idea of peaceful talks between Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican – previously proposed by Trump – “unrealistic” and stated that it is not worth losing strength on him.
On May 16 in Istanbul, for the first time since 2022, direct talks took place between Russian and Ukrainian delegations. According to the information of The Economist, Moscow demanded to recognize her control over four Ukrainian circuits: Donetsk, Lugansk, Cherson and Zaporoskie. According to the sources of Władimir Medinski magazine, which led the Russian delegation, he openly stated that in the event of refusal to make concessions, Russia is ready to “fight forever”. Negotiations ended without any specific peace agreements.
