Steaua started with the left in the new year, failure 0-2 with FC Voluntari, in stage #18. After the match, Daniel Oprița (44 years old), the technician of the “military”, came to the press conference extremely disappointed, and announced that from the summer the team will break up, because he and all the players will leave.
Oprita says he has lost his enthusiasm, given the club's situation and the ban on promoting to the Super League. He accused Bogdan Chipirliu, who cannot be relied on because of the suspension, and then took the club for non-payment of premiums.
The team from Ghencea is going through a complicated period, reaching the third defeat in a row on Thursday evening, being at the moment on the play-out spot. Immediately after the failure in the first match of 2026, Oprița appeared resigned to the press.
Daniel Oprița, after another failure in League 2, Voluntari – Steaua 2-0: “Maybe this is how it should be this year”
“I'm disappointed with the result. I can't be disappointed with the game. At least the game gives me confidence for the next 3 matches. I'm still confident that we can take 9 points and have chances in the play-offs. There are still chances, I think. Maybe with 39 points, including the results game. It's not this match that brought us here, but the matches we lost with Bistrita, with Dumbrăvița.
That's it, we were naive, just like tonight. We basically fought ourselves. I think even the Volunteers don't know how they beat us today. A deflected shot of theirs. We have a lot of opportunities, goal posts, the ball passes, he walks around the box… that's it, maybe it's fate that doesn't want it. Maybe that's how it should be this year, a play-off without any team without the right to promotion
Maybe I made a hasty choice in the summer. Even so, we were on our own. If you beat Dumbrăvița and Bistrița at home, you were in the play-off and finished”, Oprița began the conference.
Stop, at war with everyone: “The club is paying a player who is watching”
Then he found the main culprit: Bogdan Chipirliu, a player who saw the red card in the match with FC Bacău, the penultimate game of 2025, and was suspended for 3 stages.
“I'm angry and I always told Chipirliu, I tell him now: it's mostly his fault. In Bacău he left us with 10 men and without his contribution in these matches where we would have needed him. When we needed a scorer, he was missing. Why? You're not allowed to do that! You're paid by the club. The club stands to pay a player who stands to watch. He may get upset, but you are not allowed to do something like that”, said Daniel Oprița, after the match on Thursday evening, quoted by sport.ro.
Daniel Oprița accuses the non-payment of premiums for promotion on the field and announces mass departures in the summer
Oprița announced that his and the players' contracts are coming to an end, and they will leave in the summer.
“We also finished in 2nd place, but no one came to give us the firsts. Neither I nor the players received what we should have received for League 1. That should be taken into account. I know we are Steaua, we are pleased that the supporters came with us. Honestly, I am ashamed of them.
I don't even go to them anymore, but I want to tell them that we should stop talking about these things, that we have to leave. We're leaving, we're all out of contracts anyway. In the summer it will start all over again. Let's see if it will be easy for someone to take 20 players. And I had to change 6 starters.
At this point, all players' contracts expire. Apart from Chipirliu, as far as I know, they are all free since the summer. It will not be easy for whoever will come. Say that if you have the right to promotion, maybe there will be some players left here.
Maybe they lack motivation too because I lost my enthusiasm too. I tell you honestly, I feel this. Although I'm shaking on the bench, the feelings are different. I'm also disappointed because we're pedaling empty. You know how it is, the world is getting tired of me too, time is passing, a change is needed. It's a shame that it will be remembered that maybe I won't enter the play-offs this year”, Oprița also said.
