In a letter to the university, the ministry accused Harvard of the refusal to transfer materials regarding all potentially illegal foreign students, their dangerous behavior, disciplinary files, and their participation in protests. DHS at the same time gave the universities 72 hours to send relevant data so that it could continue to host and accept foreign students in the next academic year.
Responding to the decision, the university considered DHS to be illegal in a statement and announced that it would remain “fully devoted to maintaining Harvard's ability to receive students and scientists from abroad, who come from over 140 countries and immeasurably enrich the university and the country.”
