The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, gave firm assurances that Washington did not give up in front of Moscow, despite recent critics of President Donald Trump's policy in the Ukraine conflict.

“He was not getting the slightest concession“Rubio said in an hearing in the Senate Foreign Affairs Commission, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Rubio's statements came after President Trump had separate telephone calls with his counterparts in Ukraine and Russia – Volodimir Zelenski and Vladimir Putin, with the purpose of gaining fire in Ukraine.

In front of the senators, Rubio wanted to remove the suspicions about a possible approach to Kremlin, stressing that the Trump administration remains firm in support of the sovereignty of Ukraine.

The critics of the Trump administration have accused the White House of being able to make dangerous concessions in front of Russia, in some negotiations for peace. Rubio's statements come to reassure the public opinion and the US political class, stating that the objective of the calls was strictly stopping hostilities, not the political compromise.
