How an expert in foreign policy explains the departure of the US ambassador from Romania and the message of the Embassy regarding the victory of Nicușor Dan

The US Embassy in Bucharest has announced that the head of the diplomatic mission, Kathleen Kavalec, will withdraw from the service. And shortly after the announcement, the American embassy also sent a very short message about Nicușor Dan's victory in the presidential elections.

A few hours after announcing the withdrawal of the head of the diplomatic mission, the US Embassy in Bucharest sent a formal and short message from the American administration regarding the victory of Nicușor Dan to the presidential elections: “We are waiting with interest to collaborate with Nicușor Dan, as president of Romania, and with the new government, to promote our common priorities, such as defense, energy and commercial partnerships”.
The message was quickly criticized by many, who considered him to be excited and emotional, suggesting that Donald Trump would have intentionally avoided an enthusiastic identification with Nicușor Dan's victory.
Foreign policy analyst Stefan Popescu explained for the “Adevărul” why not the Ambassador Kathleen Kavalec was not replaced quickly and why the message of the US Embassy on Nicușor Dan's victory should not be interpreted with negative connotations.
“As a rule, especially in Americans, the procedure for replacing an ambassador is much more complicated than in European states. Mrs. Kavalec has been retired because she was at the age limit. The analyst also explains how the very short message of the US Embassy about the choice of Nicușor Dan as president should be interested.
