A Respiro for Romania: The European Parliament supports the extension of the PNRR with 18 months

The European Parliament voted in the specialized commissions on Tuesday a report that asks the European Commission to propose the 18 -month extension of the mature projects from the national plans for recovery and resilience (PNRR) of all Member States, including for Romania.

The report was coordinated by the Siegfried Mureșan and Victor Negrescu MEPs.
The report adopted asks to the European Commission to propose the extension of the mature projects from the PNRs of the Member States by 18 months. This extension would allow the completion of the investments and reforms important for the standard of living and the modernization of Romania. Mature projects are the ones already started, which can be completed with an adequate extension.
Siegfried Mureșan stressed that this measure comes to the support of Romania for the successful implementation of the PNR and attracting funds. He mentioned LinkedIn's personal page that it is important for mature projects to be prioritized to avoid losing money by starting reforms and investments without real chances that they will be completed.
“Specifically, our report asks the European Commission to come up with a proposal regarding the extension of 18 months of mature projects from PNRR. We are talking about those projects already started, on which important investments and reforms depend on the standard of living and the modernization of Romania and which can be completed with an adequate extension, not very high,Said Siegfried Mureșan.
For his part, MEP Victor Negrescu stressed that “it is a major success.”
“Our call for the 18-month extension of the PNRR was approved in the Commission for Budgets and the Economic Affairs Commission. At the same time, we obtained the possibility that the projects continue with other European funding. The report on the implementation of the recovery and resilience mechanism, which we coordinated on behalf of the Commission for Budgets, was adopted (63 votes for, 63 votes). So far, Romania has received 9.2 billion euros out of the amount of 28.5 billion euros for the implementation of PNRR. From this allocation, an amount of 13.6 billion euros is granted in the form of grants and 14.9 billion euros in the form of loans.
