The winning by Nicușor Dan of the presidential elections will leave the seat at the Capital City Hall. The current general mayor will have to transmit the resignation of the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest (CGMB) and to the Prefecture of the Capital, and from that moment a bureaucratic process is triggered that involves the official recognition of the vacancy, writes Mediafax.

Within ten days of receiving the resignation, the prefect of the capital must officially ascertain the vacation and issue the related order. It is the legal act that officially triggers the procedure for partial elections.

Who takes the function of interim mayor

The duties of the function will be taken temporarily, until the choice of a new mayor, by one of the two deputy mayors: Adrian Vigiuciu (PSD) and Stelian Bujduveanu (PNL). According to a decision adopted by the General Council at the beginning of the year, Adrian Vigheciu is appointed to exercise the attributions of the General Mayor if he is missing or resigning.

When and how partial elections will be organized
