“It is obvious that the Romanians gave a lesson in democracy, both the political class and Europe as a whole, because they came so large to support the European path and the democratic way for our country. It was a firm rejection of extremism.”said Victor Negrescu in an intervention at Digi24 Monday morning.

According to the social-democratic leader, “It was more than a vote for a candidate, it was a vote for these principles and clearly, the Romanians sent a clear signal that they want the decision makers to proceed otherwise, there is a change for the better and at the same time that those who are politically involved to do more for them. ”

“I think the Social Democratic Party must think the best solution for Romanians, so that people have confidence in us, so we have to have a dialogue, to see what the solutions on the table are, what are the possible variants and at the end of the day to put in the first place the interest of the Romanians, no political interest. Priority for us, so that we are credible and we can influence the public decision in the interest of the citizens ”, said the PSD leader.

The PSD leader also explained that the PSD will create a team for the discussions to be carried out for the creation of the new pro-European government.

“I think we will quickly have a pro -European government. The form by which this government will be voted remains (…) Certainly the Social Democratic Party will have a constructive approach. (…) Principle, today we are focused on regaining the confidence of Romanians, in participating in this national reconciliation. said Victor Negrescu.

What does a change at the PSD peak say

Asked about a possible change in PSD leadership, Victor Negrescu completed, stressing that it is not a person or another, but the change must come on how the party makes politics: “As you know, I assumed at one point last year this main communicator of the Social Democratic Party and saw that the PSD managed to regain the confidence of Romanians winning the parliamentary elections. We need to discuss how the party will look. It is not about one man or another, about one management or another, it is simply about a much deeper matter, as we do politics. (…) If the party does not support this change of approach, it will be very complicated for anyone to speak of an improvement ”.

Asked if the change can come with Marcel Ciolacu on the forefront of the Social Democratic Party, Victor Negrescu said that the answer will be given by Marcel Ciolacu, showing that “He was a prime minister of the Social Democratic Party with results on many levels”.

“I do not think we will have a night of long knives or a struggle for power. We will have a dialogue and I hope that in the dialogue the viable solution for the party will come out. And for Romania, because it is still the largest political party in Romania and we have to take responsibilities, we must play this role, but by approaching things as the Romanians asked, including through these vote.“, Negrescu said.

The party would analyze the results from the last elections. The PSD chief resigned from the executive management, but not from the PSD management. The party leader could keep his position at the top of the political formation.

For the PSD it is the first round of the presidential elections in which he failed to carry his candidate.
