Nicusor Dan wins in Romania. Emphasizes the importance of relationships with Poland

“I hope that the pro -European candidate will win,” Dan said from Sunday to Monday, commenting on the results of the first round of presidential elections in Poland, which took place on Sunday.
The first place was taken by the candidate Ko Rafał Trzaskowski, and the second – PiS candidate Karol Nawrocki. Politicians will compete in the second round on June 1.
Also on Sunday in Romania, the second round of repeated presidential elections took place. Dan defeated in it the leader of the radical right -wing party Aur George Simiona, who in the campaign told against continuing military assistance for Ukraine.
Nicusor Dan about Polish-Rumian cooperation
– Romania and Poland are very large countries, so If Europe wants to take responsibility for its own security, we must agree on fundamental matters – said the mayor of Bucharest, who postulates the more active role of Romania in the EU, including the expansion of the European defense industry.
The winner of the election also noted that Romania also wants to deepen relations with the USA, both in the area of security and the economy. He emphasized that one of the first cases to be dealt with in talks with Washington would be to clarify the administration of Donald Trump's judgment of the constitutional court (SK), which in November last year annulled the presidential election in Romania.
The reason for the court's decision was the allegations against the winner and round, the little -known pro -Russian right -wing radical Calina Georgescu, that he was conducting a dishonest election campaign with the likely support of Russia.
Both Trump's snip and the surroundings have repeatedly criticized the judgment of the Constitutional Court, recognizing them as a manifestation of Europe's departure from freedom of speech and disregarding the will of voters. Although, according to the judgment, it was correct, the basics of this decision should be thoroughly explained to both the society and the US administration in order to regain their trust.
Asked if he had already talked to one of the European leaders after the announcement of the initial results, he said that he had a short conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.
At the end of the campaign, before the presidential election in Romania, the topic of France, and especially Macron, exacerbated the dispute between Dana and Simills. On Thursday, the AUR leader on French television said that France interfered in elections in Romania, and the French President has “dictatorial trends”. In turn, Dan, who speaks French and has a doctorate in Sorbonne, posted on his Facebook profile a short film from his virtual conversation with Macron. The French president said in it that it is crucial for Paris to have a pro -European partner in Bucharest, with whom he will cooperate in the area of security and economy.
