Friedrich Merz and Giorgia Meloni about the army in Ukraine. “There is no discussion”

Melons at a joint press conference with Chancellor said that in terms of Ukraine the current moment is “delicate” and requires abandoning its own interests. “Maintaining the unity of the West has always been our strength from the beginning of the Russian invasion,” the Italian prime minister said, emphasizing at the same time that “everyone could present their point of view”.
“At such a delicate moment, as this one may have to give up private interests that threaten to undermine the unity of the Western, which is always of fundamental importance and will remain fundamental,” she noted.
Giorgia Meloni also referred to conversations in Turkey, calling them “the first shy step towards the peace process.”
“There is no discussion”
Referring to the issue of sending troops, the head of government said: – Especially at the time when it seems that the hypothesis of the soldiers has moved away, the more we are ready, as always, to participate in every format with the European, Western partners to achieve a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine. Let us emphasize that the Italian authorities from the beginning excluded the sending of troops.
Chancellor Merz said that “there is no discussion about sending troops to Ukraine, it is beyond all political reality.” “There is no reason to talk about it now,” he emphasized. – We are currently working for the arms to be suspended, so that this weapon will fall silent – he added.
Friedrich Merz also reserved that Friday's conversations in Istanbul regarding Ukraine “did not satisfy our expectations, despite the fact that Ukrainian negotiators showed the highest readiness.” He also announced an increase in pressure on Russia and the 17th Package of Sanctions.
– Germans want to be a country that builds bridges. We are united with France, we are united with a great neighbor – Polish, and from Italy we also have strict emotional relationships – he noted.
The head of the German government praised Prime Minister Meloni for her recent trip to the USA for talks with President Donald Trump. “She has influence, she is one of the main protagonists in Europe,” he said.
Giorgia Meloni, asked by a German journalist, whether she gave the Chancellor advice before his meeting with Trump replied: – I have no such a position to do it, because Chancellor is a politician with great experience, and I am not a psychologist of international leaders.
