The section 5 of the Sibiu-Pitești highway will be open entirely to the late week in the first week of June, almost three months earlier compared to the term envisaged in the contract for August 31, 2025.

On December 13, 2024, the traffic on more than half of the section 5 (Curtea de Argeș-Pitești) of the Sibiu-Pitești highway was opened. Specifically, it is 15.77 kilometers, between the road nodes from Bascov and Băiculești. And for the rest of the section the works are close to completion.
“On the section 5 of the Sibiu – Pitești highway the physical stage of the works is at present of over 96% and the traffic over the last 14.58 kilometers of this section is expected to be opened at the end of May – the beginning of June, depending on the weather conditions”officials from CNAIR have said for “Adevărul”.
The route of section 5 of the future Sibiu-Pitești highway begins at the exit of the city of Curtea de Argeș and continues parallel to the Argeș river, on the territory of Băiculești, Merișani, Mălreni, Budeasa, Bascov, to the current belt of Pitesti.
In total, 85% of the total financing for the Sibiu-Pitesti highway is provided from non-reimbursable European funds.
The works on section 5 of the Sibiu-Pitești highway, in length of 30.35 kilometers, started on September 1, 2021, and the contract was signed in May 2020
Section 5 Curtea de Argeş – Pitesti includes, among others, three road nodes, a viaduct, six passages and 12 bridges, plus two road coordination and maintenance centers (La Bascov and Curtea de Argeş). The value of the contract amounts to 1.7 billion lei excluding VAT, the financing being provided from non -reimbursable European funds.
