The former president of Uruguay Jose “Pepe” Mujica died

In his youth, Mujica was active in the Marxist guerrilla, which opposed the then conservative government, theft, kidnapping and bombing. He spent almost 15 years of his life in prison, including the entire period of military dictatorship, which ruled Uruguay in 1973-1985. He was tortured.
After restoring the democracy, Mujica was released and got involved in politics. In 2005-2008 he was the minister of agriculture in the first left government of the wide front. In 2009 he won the presidential election. After leaving the office in 2015 and retiring, he retained a great impact on the country's policy.
