The Egyptian Board of the Suez Canal (SCA) has been introducing 15 percent from May 15 Discounts on transit fees for large container ships to restore shipping on this route, accused of many transport companies due to the attacks of Yemenian Rebels Huti.

Discounts will apply for 90 days for container ships, whose net tonnage is at least 130 thousand. metric tons. They can be used by ships transporting the load, but also for it only flowing, i.e. empty – assured on Tuesday in Cairo Osama Raba, head of the board of the Suez Canal.
Revenues from the Suez Canal fell to $ 880.9 million in the fourth quarter of last year from $ 2.4 billion a year earlier – calculated the Egyptian Central Bank.
Many shipowners have abandoned this shortest maritime route connecting Asia and Europe in favor of a longer, around Africa, after attacks carried out on ships by the Yemeni Huti in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab.
Last week, the United States agreed with Huti regarding the suspension of weapons. Washington agreed to stop bombing their position in Yemen in exchange for consent to stop attacking on American ships. The agreement does not cover Israel.
“Lloyd's List”, a British journal dealing with maritime subject, according to which “shipping companies carefully monitor the development of the situation in the Red Sea approaches this encouragement and take into account these observations in their risk assessments, but the full return of container lines remains unlikely in the short period.”
