Poles are fighting access to British archives. They collect signatures under the petition


For now, over 1,700 people have signed the petition, when there are 10,000 of them, the government of Great Britain must respond to it. The collection of signatures lasts until October 17, 2025.

“Rzeczpospolita” informs that in the resources of the Archives of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain there are registration folders with documentation of the course of service as much as 250,000. Polish soldiers. They are complex in the military base inaccessible to visitors. Only electronic contact is possible. According to Dr. Aneta Hoffman, president of the memory signs of the Foundation, cited by the newspaper, the waiting time for a response is over a year. These documents can be used by PSZ veterans or their family members after documenting kinship.
“I failed to receive such documents,” Dr. Hoffman pointed out. These cards are made in Polish and supplemented for the service of the soldier's service, which is why, according to Dr. Hoffman, they are an important source of information. – According to the answers addressed to veterans, initially only one or two -page certificates were sent to a compendium of knowledge from the registration folder. For some time, families sometimes also receive scans or photocopies of PSZ veteran recording cards – he adds.
As “Rz” notes, due to the fact that the overall lists of PSZ soldiers were not published, the resource in the British hands is an invaluable source of knowledge and documentation of the service of tens of thousands of Polish soldiers during World War II.
