From Yakov (Jacob), that is, from April 30 according to the old style, all matchmaking was stopped in Rus', since the coming month was considered extremely inappropriate for marriage. Therefore, even the proposal for matchmaking was considered offensive: they would be bad about the family that at that time thinks about the wedding. And the saying has still been preserved: “In May to marry – to wave all my life.”
