Large lime and others call on Great Britain to rethink the plans. It is about AI and copyright

The appeal appeared just before Monday's voting (May 12) over the amendment to the “Data Use and Access Bill” Act. The amendment would oblige the creators of AI models to reveal specific songs used in the algorithm trainingenabling artists to enforce rights and pursue claims if their works were used without permission.
However, the government intends to allow AI training on protected works without prior consent, unless the owner of the rights does not object. To calm critics, the ministers only proposed an analysis of economic effects and reports of transparency – the creators recognized these concessions as illusory and insufficient.
“The reform tramples on traditional regulations that protect the source of our maintenance,” said Elton John, emphasizing that The changes will hit hundreds of thousands of people living from culture, from musicians to stage technicians. Large lime and other signatories added that without clear license rules, mass theft will become a new norm, and the industry will lose the chance for healthy cooperation with technology.
The creative sector is fighting AI
The letter calculates that the creative sector gives the UK's work 2.4 million people and generate billions of pounds per year. Only the transparent license market for training will allow – according to the authors – to combine AI's potential with the protection of human creativity And create the dynamics of coexistence, not cannibalization.
The government defends that it wants balance between the interests of artists and innovators and does not exclude subsequent changes, but the industry warnings show the growing discrepancy between the creative and technological wing of the British economy. The amendment has already been rejected in the House of Commons. If the Chamber of Lords restore it on Monday, both chambers are waiting for a ping-pong procedure, which only after a while will decide on the final shape of the regulations.

And I need boundaries
The debate is going on in the context of a wider, international battle with AI generative limits. While the European Union is finalizing AI ACT with the provisions protecting the creators, in the United States there are lawsuits of authors and labels against technology companies, London faces: either accelerate innovations at the expense of their own artists, or build a model in which artificial intelligence develops thanks to licensed cooperation with the creative sector.
Monday voting will show which road the United Kingdom will choose. And whether the voices of Elton John, Dua Lipa and hundreds of artists will prove to be loud enough to tip the scales.
