The mayor of the PSD who votes with Nicușor Dan: “I discuss with a lot of primary colleagues in Romania and I share my opinions”

The mayor of PSD from Buzau, Constantin Toma, claims that he is not the only mayor of the party led by Marcel Ciolacu who supports Nicușor Dan in the second round of the presidential elections. Asked how he sees the opinions of the other colleagues in the PSD, who say they cannot support Nicușor Dan, because the general mayor has attacked the social-democrats over time, Toma replied: “This is in politics, you are still in politics, but when it is to pass the hop you have to be united.”

Constantin Toma was asked on Thursday at Antena 3 CNN, if he campaign to Nicușor Dan for tour 2.

“I do not know if I will campaign, that I campaigned to Crin Antonescu and I removed him 4th in Buzău, because the image of the PSD is very bad and if he announced (n. Red.: The party) the support of Nicușor, I think more he lost (n.red.: Nicușor Dan). And democracy must choose democracy, “said the mayor of PSD in Buzau.

He explained that he is “for democracy, for staying in the European Union, to continue the good road so far.”

“I hope to make the decisions to be made by all Romanians. This political crisis, generated by the budgetary crisis in a way, leads to a deep economic crisis, which has already begun,” said Constantin Toma.

Constantin Toma was asked if he discussed with PSD leaders about the support for Nicușor Dan, in the context in which the party voices explained that they cannot support the mayor of the Capital in the presidential race, because in the past he attacked the political formation.

“This is how it is in politics, you are still to be, but when it is to pass the hop you have to be united. What I want to tell you, I do not talk to the big leaders of the party, that I am too high for me here, in Buzău. But I discuss with a lot of primary colleagues in Romania and I share my opinions and they even congratulated me, said the mayor of the PSD.

He added that probably other PSD mayors will not be vocal in support for Nicușor Dan, but they will support him “because we have no other chance in life in Romania”.

Contacted by HotNews and asked if he thinks there will be repercussions in the party after announcing his clear support for Nicușor Dan, Constantin Toma said: “I see my job. Between fascism and democracy, I chose. Otherwise, there would be something horror.”

Constantin Toma also said, at Antena 3 CNN, that he “hopes” for Marcel Ciolacu to leave the party, together with all the leadership, “because below we are as a party I have never been”.

“If this story is extended, we can reach under 10% or break the party to several pieces,” said the mayor of Buzau.

Constantin Toma declared that last day that, in the 2024 elections, PSD redirected votes to George Simion: “We were able to give the vote of George Simion then, in the election campaign from the first round of November, which was a great stupidity.”
