US President Donald Trump also congratulated Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, after he was elected Pope, under the name of Leon XIV, being the first American Pontiff in history.

“Cardinals of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just called Pope. It is a special honor to know that he is the first American Pope. What an emotional news and great honor for our country!” Trump wrote, in a message posted on his social network, TRUTH Social.

The White House leader added that he is looking forward to a meeting with the new Pope: “I look forward to meeting Pope Leon XIV. It will be a truly special moment!”

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, 69, was elected Pope in the Vatican conclave and chose the name Leon XIV. It is for the first time in history when an American reaches the Catholic Church.

Trump was criticized after the official account of the White House posted on Twitter an image generated by the artificial intelligence in which the American leader appeared in the pope, before the papal conclave this week.
