The Polish stock exchange relaxes declines. The index of small companies is beating another record

After a powerful sales that took place on Tuesday, Wednesday brought reflection on the indexes of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The event of the day for our market was the decision of the Monetary Policy Council to cut interest rates, in the foreground the qualities of PGE, CCC and Allegro were among the largest companies, and SWIG80 ended the day with another record closure.

WIG20 ended a Wednesday session at an altitude of 2,748.53 points, gaining 1.12%. WIG increased by 1.20% and pierced the level of 100,000 points again. MWIG40 has grown by 1.65% reaching 7,743.31 points. Meanwhile, the SWIG80 index reached a new record closure (at the fourth session in a row), ending the list of quotas at the level of 28 502.40 points, which translates into 0.90% growth.

The value of turnover on the Warsaw Stock Exchange exceeded PLN 1.9 billion, of which about PLN 1.52 billion concerned companies from the WIG20 index. The highest value of turnover took place at Orlen shares (PLN 195 million), PKO BP (PLN 181 ml) and Pekao (PLN 155 million).

The WSE indexes shone on Wednesday against the background of Europe, where only the Czech stock exchange did better that day (as in Poland, the central bank decided to reduce interest rates). At the end of the session in Warsaw, German Dax and French CAC40 lost 0.52% and 1%, respectively.

S&P and NASDAQ indexes were close to the reference point at that time. Over the ocean, the Fomc message was waiting for the May message, which is to appear at 20:00. The consensus assumes that interest rates will not be reduced there.

The event of the day for the Polish market was the decision of the Monetary Policy Council to cut the reference interest rate by 50 PB. After its announcement, the WSE indexes, which caught breathlessness in the second half of the session, gained new fuel.

The leader in terms of increases in the WIG20 index was on Wednesday the qualities of PGE, which ended it, gaining 2.49%. CCC's quotations were in second place, with an increase of 2.36%. The podium closed the Allegro, whose shares ended the session by growing by 2.24%.

Banks' quotations, whose sector index was overpheated on 2.4%, was also doing very well. On Wednesday, WIG-Banki gained 1.37%. Alior Bank (+2%), PKO BP (+1.18%) and Pekao (+1.11%) gained the most among the Blue Chips.

1.24% have gained PZU quotations, whose management recommended the highest level of dividend payment for the action for 12 years and will allocate almost all profit. PLN 3.86 billion will go to divide between shareholders, which means PLN 4.47 for each share.

The only company in the Blue Chip index, which ended Wednesday at the reference point, was Pepco. The company's ratings could be influenced by an adversely reduced recommendation of Erste Group analysts who went with “Buy” to “Hold” and valued eggs for PLN 19.

In mWIG40, Grupa Azoty (+6.96%), Voxel (+6.75%) and Tauron (+5.76%) were best coped. On the opposite side of the market were the Pracuj (-3.04%) group, Synektik (-1.45%) and Selvita (-1.45%).

In the index of small companies, ONDE (+7.62%), Pekabex (+6.37%) and Creotech (+5.69%) gained the most. Pekabex presented on Wednesday a monthly report concerns the volume of production in April 2025.

Votum shares, whose general meeting decided to pay a dividend in the amount of PLN 3.74 per share, has grown by 1.20%. Dividend day was designated for May 30, and its payment will be paid on June 6, 2025.
