CTP has published an ironic message addressed to the diaspora: “To return massively to the country, the honey will flow”

The newspaper Cristian Tudor Popescu recently published on social networks an anonymous message, sent as a reaction to a previous post. The text is addressed to Romanians in the diaspora, inviting them to return massively in Romania, in the context of an alleged “Sovereignty” which the country would win under the new political leadership. The message is ironic and with a critical tone.

“Now that Romania has a great chance to finally become a” sovereign state “and will prosper as it has never done it in the last 20 years, please those in the Diaspora, who have voted massively for Mr. CG, through Mr. Simion, to return to our dear country,” The text begins.

The message, although unsigned, ironizes the promises of nationalist politicians and the image “Idilică” of a reborn Romania, in which the citizens enjoy high salaries, cheap houses, gasoline and holidays only in the country. Among the lines, the author underlines the absurdity of some populist ideas: “We have no houses? No bathrooms. Simion had made house projects with 35,000 euros. Cheap. And good. Probably straw houses, as in the story of the three pigs …”.

The tone becomes more and more acidic with references to sex education, access to information or withdrawal from NATO and the European Union:

“We cut their internet and any access to information. Of course.” Regarding the support provided by the EU Romania in recent years, the message is sarcastic: “The schools renovated, modernized the streets, invested in educational and social projects. But otherwise, nothing. Zero contribution.”

Posting ends with an ironic invitation to the diaspora: “Prepare your luggage and come up, until the borders are closed. That they will close, I do not know if Mr. CG and Mr. Simion succeed in separating the roads in two, through a wind from the east, as Moses succeeded.”

Cristian Tudor Popescu did not comment on the content of the message, choosing to publish it as such.

The Romanians from the Diaspora voted in a record number at the first round of the presidential elections of May 4, 2025. Nearly one million votes were registered-200,000 more than at the first round of November 2024 and 300,000 above the level of 2019.

According to estimates, the votes in the diaspora had a significant impact on the establishment of the finalists.

The golden candidate, George Simion, was detached among the Romanians outside the country, obtaining 61% of the votes expressed in the sections abroad. It was followed by the independent candidate Nicușor Dan, with 25.44%. Both entered the round 2. The Romanians will vote again on May 18, 2025, in the second round.
