The independent candidate for the presidential elections, Nicuşor Dan, said on Monday evening that he knew his opponent in round 2, George Simion, about 20 years old, from the time they both participated in protests related to urbanism in Bucharest. The general mayor is of the opinion that Simion “plays a role” in recent years and that there is no longer “someone with whom you discuss the same thing in the private and public space.”
“We have known each other for 20 years, since we protested for Cathedral Plaza, for urban planning things,” Nicuşor Dan told B1 TV, quoted by News.ro.
Asked if something from George Simion's recent behavior was surprised, Nicușor Dan replied: “When I met him I had an absolutely normal relationship. We were young people who were protesting against demolitions and other things that were happening in Bucharest. It seems to me that Mr. Simion has been playing a role.
Regarding the image of George Simion of anti-system candidate, Nicuşor Dan said that the gold leader “made numerous associations with the system”.
“What I can find is that it has made numerous associations with the system I saw on my skin at the General Council,” said Nicuşor Dan.
Asked if the gold leader could make an alliance with PSD and Marcel Ciolacu, Nicuşor Dan said that, in his opinion, he would accept such a collaboration, but that he hopes that the PSD will avoid it.
“I am sure that they are ready to go to government with the PSD, but I hope that the PSD will not do this. Because, with all the defects they have and I have criticized the PSD for years, yet the PSD is a pro-Western party,” said Nicușor Dan.
The PSD leaders decided on Monday that the party will not announce their support for any of the two candidates entered tour 2.
In the second round of the pezidental elections, which will take place on May 18, the gold leader, George Simion, with 41%, and the general mayor of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, with 21%. Crin Antonescu, the candidate of the PSD-PNL-UDMR governing coalition, ranked third, with 20%.
