The independent candidate for the presidential elections, Nicușor Dan, holds a press conference at 18:00, at his campaign headquarters, on the same day that George Simion challenged him.

Nicușor Dan says it is not the case of financial panic.

The independent candidate said that he will participate in debates with George Simion.

News in the course of update

We recall that Nicușor Dan, a candidate in the second round of the 2025 presidential elections, spoke, in a Facebook post, about the serious economic situation in which the state is.

Romania is already shaken by the first effects of a harmful experiment, represented by Simion ”said Nicușor Dan, announcing that he will bring all the pro-European and pro-democratic political forces to the same table.

“The elections of May 18 are not about who is shouting more. I am about who can lead Romania in a moment of compassion. We go further on this road, there is an increase in chain, economic instability, international insulation, country bankruptcy.Nicușor Dan said on Facebook.

We remind that the first round of the presidential elections, held on May 4, was won by George Simion, at a distance of 20 percent from Nicușor Dan, who will face the gold candidate in the second round, on May 18, 2025.

Simion obtained 40.96% (3,862,761 votes), in the type of Nicușor Dan 20.99% (1,979,767 votes).

The golden candidate won more votes on Sunday than he succeeded with Georgescu in November 2024.

The two current candidates of the round express two opposite poles present today in the Romanian society. Therefore, on May 18, Romania will be in front of a historical choice: possible isolation of Western alliances or strengthening the membership in the European Union and NATO. The second round of presidentials thus becomes a referendum on the geopolitical direction of the country.

We also remember that, after the result of round I, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu resigned, leaving behind an interim government with PSD ministers. Interim president Ilie Bolojan named Cătălin Predoiu Prime Minister.
