“It is not true that KGHM Polska Miedź is planning group layoffs in the Miedzi Legnica smelter. Huta in Legnica is an important and developmental production of the company, and its technological transformation towards the hybrid/recycling steelworks is an important element of KGHM's investment plans.

“The currently ongoing transformation of the steelworks is aimed at adapting its technological sequence to future market conditions and the use of the development potential that is associated with the recycling of copper scrap metal. Technological changes will positively affect working conditions and will not cause group layoffs” – added.

The company informed that as part of the first stage of the transformation into the technological string of Huta Miedzi Legnica, a high -quality copper scrap metal melting node was built. Ultimately, it will be supplemented with a scrap metal database, whose task will be to prepare the batch material for the melting of in the Copper Huta Legnica.

As stated, in connection with the development and modernization of production processes, some employees will be moved to the newly created positions as part of the copper scrap recycling process.

“These issues, however, are clearly communicated to the crew of Huta Legnica and trade union headquarters in KGHM Polska Miedź” – it was written.

“The next, ongoing investments concern the Faculty of Copper Electrorafination. New activities will improve the safety and hygiene of work and increase the production capacity of the steelworks. The completion of the investment is planned for the end of 2026.” – Added.

KGHM said that the key element of the transformation of Huta Miedzi Legnica is the choice of a new metallurgical aggregate (furnace) for the melting of copper scrap metal.

“Currently, HML is conducting advanced talks with two leading companies from the metallurgical industry, in order to choose the most optimal furnace, which is to be launched in HML until 2030. In addition to maintaining current production capacity, the new aggregate will ensure greater batch flexibility and fits into ecological policy, as well as current market trends. Anodowe and the Faculty of Lead Rafination remain in its current form, “it was written.

As stated, the statement is a response to the letter of the NSZZ “Solidarność” Committee of Huta Miedzi Legnica addressed to the Minister of State Asset by Jakub Jaworowski. The company announced that it treated the letter as a manipulation of manipulation and an attempt to arouse unjustified social unrest among the crew and the environment. (PAP Biznes)
