In an interview given on Sunday the show the Press of the NBC, Trump was asked if he would exclude the use of force against the territory, writes News.ro.
“I do not exclude this possibility. I'm not saying I will do it, but I don't exclude anything. No, not there. We need Greenland. Greenland has a very small population, which we will take care of and which we will value, and all this. But we need it for international security ”said Trump.
The exchange of replies took place in a large interview granted last week, after the first 100 days of Trump's term, in which he was asked about the idea of using military force against Canada-an idea once inconceivable, but now is the subject of speculation, in the context of Trump's repeated statements that he would like to make the 51st state.
“It's very unlikely. I don't see this with Canada. I just don't see, I have to be honest with you.”Trump said.
Trump said he talked to Canada's new prime minister, Mark Carry, but the two did not discuss the country's integration. However, the US president added that he could discuss this topic when the prime minister visited Washington.
Cariy, along with about 90% of Canadians, opposes the idea of integrating Canada into the US. However, Trump said he was open to discussions.
“I will always talk about it. Do you know why? We subsidize Canada with $ 200 billion a year“Said Trump.
“We do not need their cars. In fact, we do not want their cars. We do not need their energy. We do not even want their energy. We have more than them. We do not want their wood. We have excellent wood. All I have to do is free it from the ecologists.”
Trump said that if “Canada would be part of the US, it would cost us nothing. It would be wonderful … it would be a valuable state. And if you look at our map, if you look at geography-I am a guy who is good at real estate.
“What a beautiful country would be”, he added.
A poll published last month showed that 68% of Americans believe that Trump is serious about US intention to take over Greenland, and 53% think Trump is serious when talking about US attempt to take control over Canada.
