Nicolae Grigore, the former coach of the U16 and U17 national teams, is free of contract. He refused the FRF proposal to continue and work with a new generation of players.
In March, Nicolae Grigore's contract with FRF ended. The former midfielder from Rapid took over the national players born in 2008 two years ago. He wanted to continue with the juniors of the 2008 generation, but FRF did not agree.
It would have meant Nicolae Grigore to become a selector at the U18 national. The former midfielder gave the details at GSP Live and said he wants to take a step in front of his career and train either juniors over 17, or seniors.

Nicolae Grigore: “I had a discussion in which I proposed to take another generation of players”
“The contract was over at the end of March. I had a discussion in which I was proposed to take another generation of players. I wanted to continue with the 2008 generation.
There were no qualifications, but doing my own analysis after these two years I spent at the national players born in the 2008 generation, I played 25 matches, 10 wins, 10 draws and 5 defeats. Playing with France twice, with Spain twice, with Norway, are not bad results.
The failures came in some inappropriate qualification moments. Some good things were done, a beautiful group was built. I would have liked to continue with this generation. A nice group was made.
At the Scotland tournament I defeated 10-0 Liechtenstein, the clearest victory in history for Romania's youth nationals. There were some beautiful situations, I would have liked it.
To take a generation with 15-year-old players now, I wouldn't have a motivation. I didn't want to mess up anyone with such a decision”, Said Nicolae Grigore, at GSP Live.
I would like to train in seniors, club, or big juniors at national. At the moment I wait for the season to end, then I will see what is coming for me.
