What success for Sorana Cîrstea! After 3 years and a month, the Romanian added a new trophy in his own showcase, conquering the double competition from Madrid after two hours and 14 minutes of fighting with Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudemetova.

The Romanian-Russian pair lost the first set in tie-break, 6-7 (10-12). Towards the end of the first set, Anna Kalinskaya slipped and injured at both knees, from which blood began to flow.

The double final from Madrid: Sorana Cîrstea went directly to the chair referee: “It's blood, you have to stop!”
Upon return from the locker rooms, the Russian knees were still bleeding so that Sorana headed for the chair referee to request the medical team's intervention.
When the referee argued that “it is just a scratch,” Sorana insisted: “Yes, but it is blood! When you see blood, stop the match and call the physiotherapist, right? I mean … that's how he writes to the regulation!”.
Anna Kalinskaya received medical care and could continue the match, after two bandages were applied. She and Sorana won the second set with 6-2, then won in Super Tie-break with 12-10.

The triumph of the two brings them a total check worth 400,560 euros.
