The decision to withdraw the support of Elena Lasconi for the first round of the presidential elections was a painful one, but it turned out to be correct, said Dominic Fritz, the first vice-president of the USR, shortly after publishing the first Exit-Poll results.

“Today is a good day for democracy, for the restoration of the confidence of Romanians in democracy. Where there are suspense, the games are not made, there matters any vote and this is happy. Reformist, pro-European with chances of entering the second round, ”said Dominic Fritz.

He stressed that it is expected that the results in the Diaspora, which is not caught in Exit-Poll, help Nicușor Dan.

“I think it is quite obvious that the Diaspora is not a friend of those who have been to the buttons over the past 30 years and who are now in the government. I am sure that Nicușor Dan and George Simion will receive a Boost when there is a diaspora,” said Dominic Fritz.

He stressed that the result obtained by Elena Lasconi is not a surprise and is the reason why they decided to announce their support for Nicușor Dan.

“The result of Elena Lasconi was not a surprise. I saw her. We trusted our own voters who told us that their choice will be another. The conclusions regarding the way USR is rearranged in the coming days,” he concluded.

George Simion leads with 33%, while Nicușor Dan and Crin Antonescu are almost on a draw-just over 20%, according to the Exit-Poll results published after the closing of the ballot boxes. Elena Lasconi is listed at 4%.
